No. 16 USC Women’s Tennis Headed South For Dual Against No. 20 San Diego

LOS ANGELES – The No. 16 USC women’s tennis team is on the road again this weekend as the team travels down the 405 to San Diego, Calif. for an 11 am. Saturday, Feb. 3 dual against No. 20 USD. 
 
USC (4-0) is undefeated against ranked opponents this season (2-0) and looks to extend that streak against the No. 20 ranked Toreros this weekend. 
 
The match will have live scoring that can be found here (no live video). 
 
This weekend’s event marks the final match in California for the Trojans until March 1 when the Trojans return to face crosstown rival UCLA in Westwood. 
 
RANKINGS:
The Women of Troy enter this week ranked No. 16 in the country (ITA Coaches Poll, Jan. 31). USC boasts five Trojans in the national singles rankings, with sophomore Emma Charney leading USC at No. 22 after going 13-5 in the fall. Trojan redshirt junior Snow Han locked in the No. 33 ranking, while senior Naomi Cheong secured the No. 42 rank.  Junior Grace Piper checked in at No. 66, while USC fifth-year Eryn Cayetano sits at No. 83. 

The Women of Troy also boast two ranked duos in No. 10 Cayetano and Charney, and No. 29 Parker Fry and Grace Piper. 
 
SO FAR THIS SEASON:
The Women of Troy opened the 2024 season with a pair of home dual matches, defeating LMU (7-0) and UC Irvine (4-0) during a season-opening doubleheader on January 18.
 
USC then hit the road for ITA Kickoff Weekend in Knoxville, Tenn., defeating No. 21 Miami (4-2) and No. 17 Tennessee (4-2). 
 
Following a fantastic kickoff weekend, Trojan sophomore Emma Charney was named the Pac-12 Women’s Tennis Player of the Week. Charney went undefeated in singles and doubles in Knoxville and delivered both clinchers. 
 
NEW ADDITIONS:
USC welcomed two midseason additions with the arrival of freshman Immi Haddad (London, England) and Lily Fairclough(Perth, Western Australia). 

Haddad has won two junior singles titles and captured five doubles titles, including one alongside Fairclough. The London native reached a career best ITF women’s singles ranking of 806 on November 20, 2023. Her career best ITF Junior singles and doubles ranking is 107 (September 11, 2023). Haddad boasts a career junior’s singles record of 76-55 and doubles record of 50-45. 

Fairclough brings a slew of high-level tennis experience to Troy, boasting a career best ITF singles rankings of 265 and doubles ranking of 420. The freshman has also won 10 junior doubles titles (won the J100 Sousse Title with Haddad) and three women’s doubles titles. 

Both are sure to be instant impact additions for the Women of Troy in both singles and doubles. 
 
SCOUTING SAN DIEGO:
No. 20 San Diego is 1-1 on the season following a 3-4 loss to No. 8 Florida on Sunday, Jan. 28, on the road. The Toreros hold one in the national singles rankings with sophomore Mia Mack leading at No. 89 after going 8-2 in the fall. San Diego does not have any ranked doubles.
