EKU Women’s Tennis Sweeps Doubleheader Against Union College and Northern Kentucky

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women’s tennis team (4-3, 0-0 ASUN) earned a doubleheader sweep against Union College (0-1, 0-0 AAC) and Northern Kentucky (0-3, 0-0 Horizon) on Friday at the Greg Adams Tennis Center. EKU beat Union by the score of 5-2 and NKU, 6-1.
 
To begin the dual match against Union College, the Colonels won from all three courts to take the doubles point. Zhansaya Bakytzhan and Masha Fedenko won their doubles match from the No. 1 court, 6-1. Then, Marilou Cote and Izem Elif Olcer dominated to win from the No. 3 court, 6-1. Sasha Parkhomenko and Emmeline Polevoi won their doubles contest in a close one from the No. 2 position, 6-4.
 
Parkhomenko won in singles play in straight sets from the No. 2 spot, 6-3, 6-2. Polevoi earned her fifth singles win of the season in three sets from the No. 3 court, 5-7, 6-2, 6-0.
 
Olcer won her third consecutive singles match from the No. 5 position in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. Mariia Triska earned her first singles win of the season from the No. 6 spot, 8-5.
 
In the second dual match against Northern Kentucky, EKU won from the bottom two courts in doubles to take a one-point advantage.
 
Fedenko won her singles match in three sets from the No. 1 spot, 6-2, 0-6, 6-2. Polevoi earned a straight-set victory in singles play from the No. 4 court, 7-5, 6-3. Parkhomenko earned her second singles victory of the day in a three-set thriller from the No. 2 position, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
 
Cote won her third singles match of the season in three sets from the No. 3 spot, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2. Olcer dominated to win in straight sets from No. 6 court, 6-2, 6-1.
